The “Greatest of All Time” are back in Vogue as ’90s supermodels Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell grace the cover of the fashion magazine’s September 2023 issue.
For the cover photo, the four icons donned all black — Evangelista in a Michael Kors Collection coat and D’Accori shoes, Crawford in a Bottega Veneta dress and Sergio Rossi shoes, Turlington in head-to-toe Versace, and Campbell in a Prada dress, Paula Rowan gloves, and Roger Vivier shoes.
Inside the magazine, the famous models and their collaborators reflect on their rise to superstardom during the 1990s — including their appearance in George Michael’s “Freedom! ’90” music video and their Versace Fall/Winter 1991 show set to the same song.
“It was insane. We are not The Beatles,” Evangelista said of the press mania.
But the experience also bonded the supermodel quartet.
“There was a sisterhood there, defined by caring and loyalty,” Campbell added. “When one is down, you pick the other one up.”
Michael Kors, meanwhile, recalled seeing Crawford at a casting in 1986 and knowing that the fashion world was changing.
“At that time, everything was still very church and state; print models didn’t know how to move,” he said. “Cindy walked for me and you knew it was a whole new chapter — very poised, her own way of moving, not stuck in the old-world Parisian way of modeling. The models who were traditional runway models in that show took a look at her and knew this was going to be a whole new era.”
The Vogue cover also represents a comeback for Evangelista, who revealed in 2021 that CoolSculpting procedures five years prior had left her “brutally deformed.”
“I don’t mind and I never did mind aging,” she told Vogue. “Aging gets us to where we want to be, and that’s for me a long life.”
